DP is an epic rock band in Hong Kong, popular on the local scene and cool enough to be part of festivals like SXSW in Austin, Texas. Short for David & Paul, they have released a new album featuring my photography. Their album release was a raucous night of metal in the relatively new, and already-realizing-its-potential XXX Gallery in Sheung Wan. What a night!
You can read more about them here, and look below for our collaboration (larger version on my site)
I visited Cheung Chau Island with my friend Louisa this weekend and captured this varied colorful moments.
Enjoy!
I had the pleasure a while back of interviewing and photographing Budoy Marabiles, leader of Junior Kilat, one of the Philippines most popular Reggae Bands. For this podcast, I’ve narrowed the interview down to spoken word versions of Junior Kilat songs with details below:
Enrique De Malacca – song about the man considered the first circumnavigator of the world. He was a translator for Magellan among other things:
Original Sigbin – song about a shape-shifting mythical creature of the Visayas, part of the Philippines. Hunted by Europeans at a time and thought to be the cure to AIDS
Spiderman – song about gambling culture surrounding spider fighting in the Philippines
I’ve been meaning to blog about this. Last month, I performed at the Art Fair with DJ Gie and saxophonist Oscar Azahar. Jing Jang did masterful work putting together a set of images for us. Since I’ve recently created my own soundcloud account today is ideal for sharing a few images and audio from the night.
I had breakfast this morning in Yau Ma Tei with HK Honey’s creator Michael Leung (he’s my neighbor). We were chatting about creation and use of sound by bees, but digressed into two newish long-form music videos. The first was a comedic one by the Beastie Boys, and the second one by Kanye West is below along with stills from the video highlighting some of the moments I felt were best captured by the cinematographer Kyle Kibbe. Amazing music, though some funny lyrical clashes with the high concept art direction and photography.
Sarah Renfro has new undies a new song called “Save Me” that she’s debuting online via Me In My Place, a site featuring “Real girls in their own place. Not too crazy and just a pinch of naughty.” It’s quite PG, really, but a very sexy look at real women chillin’ at home. Something cool about Sarah’s music is she could be wearing a Parka + Galoshes or be completely bare and the music would have the same effect. Expect more fun Renfro-vocalizations at the second half of the tune. There’s always a surprise or two about which way the melody is going.
One of my favorite people here in Hong Kong, Grace has been an inspiration to me (and a kick in the butt) to get fit. This was taken recently on a hike we took together around Kennedy town.
I just shot this less than 5 minutes ago, but wanted to share. This is the view outside my window – I think I’ll do a time lapse of it soon, but for now I just stuck the camera out the window and fired off a few frames
