Start From Zero

Hong Kong’s street artist, Start From Zero (Show this Friday @ UFO Gallery!) has created a new piece work in my ‘hood. I went out last night with my camera for around 2 hours documenting various street art and the general vibe after being very inspired by a particular shoot happening just off the coast in the South China Sea.

A word on inspiration: Inspiration is when something excites you enough to get off your butt and do something creative (that means creating, making, designing, moving, sounding DOING). If you think you’re inspired but don’t make something of it. that’s just excitement.

The piece riffs off a common construction work sign in which a caricatured worker is apologizing for any inconvenience caused during work (below):

Here are a two images taken nearer, for detail:

If anyone understands the hybrid symbol on the worker’s head, please post in the comments.

What’s your name?

Today, my sister Beka had her second baby. I’m an uncle x 3 now. But, she has yet to name her. Since the first, Thomas, was my nephew, I figured this one would be Denise. I also thought of just going with a more abstract name for the time being. Behold! Untitled #2

What would you name her?

creativeLIVE, democratizing creative education

Yesterday (well, 1:30am for me) Chase Jarvis introduced a new way to democratize creativity and education through creativeLIVE – with a revamp to the 1-year old site and big endorsement from Chase, aspiring artists will be able to view some of the top professionals in their field give lessons, broadcast for free. It’s quite an interesting business model. For more info, check out the video below:

Rooster Ng Pilipinas

Rooster Ng Pilipinas

Rooster Ng Pilipinas

This is your typical Rooster in the Philippines checking out a book by Chase Jarvis titled “The Best Camera (is the one that’s with you)” – this was part of the contest I entered and won, for a trip to Seattle to meet Chase Jarvis and friends and collaborate creatively. See the original post here. I’ll be posting more of these images periodically, because if they’re half as fun to look at as they were to shoot then that’s still awesome :-)

Inside the black box

Chase Jarvis Live

Today, Hasselblad and Nikon Master photographer Chase Jarvis is having his first internet-streamed photoshoot. Chase has a mantra of “Create, share, sustain” that fuels his very successful presence in social media. He’s one to watch for his photography and for his online participation. Check out his blog for a plethora of photographic advice and a whole range of fun videos and posts.

For the record, these things would be extremely difficult without the help of  Chase’s staff: Scott, Kate, Dartanyon, Cody, Mikal and intern Norton. Give ‘em a round of applause!
